Week 1
Day 2
Day 2 of our trip in China....was looking forward to breakfast in China, but an utter disappointment in the morning! I have heard of delicious dish called the “re gan mian” which my colleagues at work had strongly recommended me to eat, so I eagerly looked forward to this delicious meal. This “delicious dish” ruined the breakfast for this chilly morning, for being very dry to the mouth and honestly, it tasted like peanut butter! Imagine noodles with peanut butter!
We had a tour of the university after the breakfast, where we had another insight look of the university. I took many pictures of the buildings and found the buildings to be very old and unique, in the sense that many resembled architectures from other countries. I think that the people in china uses or have people from other countries to help them design their buildings, thus the different cultures’ architecture.
Lunch was next in line and it was quite alright, after which in our groups we had to find our way to a according to Mr Chua nearby shopping centre, which in fact was quite far away. It was our first time taking a public bus in Wuhan and it was quite an experience! We had to chase after the bus instead of it waiting for us. And it was actually a common practice to get on the bus by the back door! Ticketing was done with a lady who collected the fare and us a tiny bus ticket.
We got off after a while and walked blindly without knowing anyway and my roommate ended up losing his glove which we bought later on at night. Shopping was boring as the price was just like in Singapore. So we walked around and had an early dinner at KFC before going back to school by bus. The KFC in china is so different, they do not have 2 piece or 3 piece meals! They offer 4 piece and 6 piece chicken but without the drinks, and they menu is more like Macdonald!
Made our way back to the bus stop to take a bus, back that is where we met our first beggar. He was asking for money, but we did not give. It felt really bad, but we knew that if we gave they would call a lot more to surround us and we would be overwhelmed. Another lesson learnt, our hearts may want to help people, but for our own good, sometimes, it’s better if we don’t.
Back in school, we got our necessities and replaced the gloves that my room- mate lost and went to out rooms to do our things. At around 10.30 p.m, I went out of the school to get a little snack from the roadside stall found that quite a few stall remain open even when the night was not young anymore.
Not a bad day to spend today, just that a little disappointed with the prices in the shopping centres...hope we can find some other places with cheap stuff!
